STASIS / NURON - Time is Right EP (FENCEPIECE)

Harking back to an undisputed golden era of electronic music, long before the age of the lap-top, cut 'n' paste, cookie-cutter producers of today, and emerging alongside likeminded creatives and originators such as B12, The Black Dog, Aphex Twin, Autechre and many, many more, made up what was in effect the UK techno 'sound', reflected perhaps most notably (although by no means exclusively) via WARP's Artificial Intelligence series of the time. Arguably operating slightly lower-key came Stasis, who is in fact Steve Pickton, also known for his recordings as Soul 223, Phenomyna, Paul W Teebrook and several others. Stasis releases at the time emerged on what were essentially (or indeed transposed into) cult labels of their day: Likemind, B12, Peacefrog, and of course Pickton's own humble Otherworld Recordings. Even more obscure was a tiny imprint, Time is Right, by which this next release emerged on back in 1993, and is now the subject for this much-needed re-release via Fencepiece. And so here it is! The sound of Stasis largely revolves around Detroit-inspired beats and subversive melodies, quite refreshing at the time from all of the 'hands in the air' rave sounds that were doing the rounds and offering a distinctly 'new' slant on the Motor City sound.

The third release on Steve Pickton's co-owned Fencepiece record label features something special from the OTHER WORLD Studios archive - the first ever Stasis release from 1993. Three sublime examples of classic UK techno from one of the true originators - 'Vanmannans Answer' also features an early studio collaboration with fellow UK legend, Nuron. Originally released on the tiny Time is Right label and now super-rare and expensive, these tracks have been remastered for 2021 from the original DAT.
